Well it’s spring time gardening, and now is a very good time to plant your garden – But, prepare for the bugs pest invasion, it’s best to prevent rather than see it happening then put a stop on it. I just went to Walmart and bought a few items – grass fertilizer, I don’t see the use of buying expensive one, so I bought a bag that covers about 5,000 square feet for 3-4months which should last the whole spring time and beginning of summer then see if I need again. Bought the bug spray watering and spray, and again I don’t see the use of purchasing expensive one, as long as the one you buy displayed publicly and has large volume, meaning that’s it’s ok to use 🙂 i’m sure heheheh.
OK, I’ve made up my mind, Hydroponics gardening will be on my list of priorities to do this spring time and summer whenever time permitted :). This Hydroponics gardening looks so cool and has many variations. The one that I like the most is having a foam surface water underneath and never need to water or use any pump, I wonder if that will work well, I thought oxygen need to be injected into the water for the plant root to be stronger and healthier vegetables. I believe it’s possible to grow any plants via Hydroponics. This is like space age, or space travel gardening, where we can even grow plants on an airplane or in space, a little of air, light soil and water, the water kept on cycling. The only thing I notice is need that water pump to cycle the water to the plant, but I’ve seen people using soda 2 litre bottle and stack apart each one with little bit of soil and poor water on top one and let it drip, and the bottom bottle collect the drip water and cycle it again and again. Pretty cool huh.
How can I forget the place that I grow up. Well at least to 11 years old or older I think, then became a Vietnamese refugee like many others from Vietnam in Malaysia Paula BiDong Sungei Besi and the Phillipines Bataan I think, can’t remember the exact name. Anyhow, below are pictures and name of fruits and vegetable that I can still remember eating it, picking it and least trying to find it 🙂 Love the sugar can by the bay, that thing can be use to clean your teeth 🙂 like gum here in the USA 🙂 hahahah. There’s a flower in Vietnam called “Hoa Muoi Gio” “Bong 10 gio” “”hoa mười giờ” có lẽ vì hoa chỉ nở khi nắng cao lúc đứng ” I can translate it to English as “10 o’clock flower” hahaha I don’t really know the exact name or if it exist anywhere else beside Vietnam where used to live. This flower is special and unique because it only blossom about 10 o’clock AM, but really it’s not really accurate at 10 AM, but it does blossom during this time because the sun light is just right, if not then it won’t blossom at all – so I guess that’s why people call it 10 o’clock flower. So far I can only find this flower where I live in Vietnam Cu Lao where it has plenty of sun light and water and moisture and mist during the night til morning time. This flower when blossom it’s bright pink colors beautiful 🙂 According to some website it said the name or family of this flower is “Portulaca grandiflora”
Where I used to live in Vietnam, a place call Cu Lao, Tan Thoi, it get flooded once in a while but it’s not real bad didn’t get into the house though. I used to go catch fish with my bare hand out on the creek “Rach” back of the house. There is a special tree call “Cay Ban” “Cây Bần”, it only grow where there are plenty of water and mud but the root is very strong to keep it from falling, specially it grow near the river bank. I use to harvest the root to create wine cap for my grandma, it’s great for fine cap, just dried it and turn it into wine cap. Be careful though, there’s a special bees that lives on this tree, we call it “ông bần” it was name after this tree. I got stunk a couple times before by these bees, and it hurt swalln for a good hours but it goes away, these bees are not posionous :). The tree has fruit call “Trái Bần” and can taste pretty bad if eat it raw, very bitter sometime and very sour 🙂 but awesome exotic fruit just to get you high hahahahah. The fruit is also good for cooking Vietnamese sour sour “Canh Chua”, I like to go pick it but not much eating it, we have to climb up the tree and get it, the fruit look for very nice, and the flower is beautiful. Especially when the flower start to fall off, it’s beautiful and can be pretty romantic for couple whom peddle their boat pass by it, various colors but mostly white. I got confirmation springs planting start now, some or most people already started now, although official spring is mid March 2012. Well if you have a green house then you can start anytime and grow all year round. Time fly by so fast, Winter blink of an eye it’s spring, blink of eye a whole new year and I age another age ;). My mom’s house luckily have free water, the water coming from a well, I’m thinking of drilling a well also, or somehow get collect rain water and store it for water the plants and grass. We didn’t get much snow this year for some reason. If I have free water, I would have a nice garden set up and plant all kind of fruits and vegetables. Do automatic watering and stuff. I think I will setup a way to collect rain water and use it to water the garden or grass during the hot summer heat. I don’t have official tips for planting, but if I search all over the web, the following is best:
Look like springs is here. AS I woke up prepared breakfast for the family, and sat down with few mins left before taking daughter to school. AS I blog this entry, as I look out the window, I can see few birds trying to find places to build its nest, as the sun started to shine everywhere, bright nice pleasant look like it’s gonna be. I’m not sure whether to allow the bird to build its nest in my front porch ceiling, previously last year and the year before that, those birds made big mess poop everywhere, so I think I will try to get a bird house for it and block off any area birds might be building its nest.
